Nutrition, exercise, proper medical care, and great sleep are all necessary for an empowered life in your senior years. You don’t have to have access to a fortune to be happy and healthy as you age, but you do have to do some planning and a lot of thinking.

Stay Healthy for as Long as Possible

If you’re lucky enough to grow old, there will come a point when you will start feeling more physical discomfort. It’s simply part of the human condition. By working to build a strong and healthy body, keeping yourself moving, eating right, and sleeping well, you may be able to have a comfortable life for as long as possible. However, you may eventually need hospice care to experience a comfortable and peaceful passing. When you make choices about your health and activity, you’ll have a more wonderful life.

The first step in great sleep is being really tired, and an active life makes that easier. If you spend your life napping in front of the television all day and then get frustrated because you can’t sleep, start a walking program, even if it’s just around your house or down the hall of your apartment building. Not all mattresses are created equal; they vary on measures of pressure relief, spinal alignment, motion transfer, and breathability, to name just a few. Go bed shopping with your partner to make sure you’re both comfortable and have enough space.

Every day that you get to wake up is off to a pretty good start. However, everyone will reach the end of his or her body’s usability. By living as healthily as possible, by sleeping well, by choosing a Christian-focused lifestyle, you can develop a healthy routine to stay mobile as you age. You can also plan your finances for your final years and determine where you want your earthly goods dispersed. You can create a life that will give you as much mobility as possible now and that will provide you with confidence as your soul departs this physical plane.

Bette Davis is credited with saying that old age isn’t for sissies. It’s also not kind to those who aren’t willing to face end-of-life issues. When you’ve made your decisions, share this information with several of your family members or those who will be called if you should have a catastrophic health failure. Write them down. Make your wishes known.
