The Joys of Being an Insurance Agent

Last week I talked about how I joined the life and health insurance world. I briefly mentioned how I learned to love being an insurance agent because it gave me a chance to help my clients protect themselves. This week I wanted to spend some time explaining the other reasons why I fell in love with being an insurance agent.

Working with Different People

My absolute favorite reason for being an insurance agent is all of you guys! It’s such a delight to be able to work with so many different people. I have clients in Benton, Clinton, Fountain, Howard, Montgomery, Tippecanoe and Warren counties, so I have got to meet people from all over this state! My clients and I have been able to share so much. We have shared stories, laughter, meals, tears and even time in prayer. I even have clients that have made me gifts! It has been such a joy. I’m so blessed to say that many of my clients truly are my friends. Even though my clients are all different, I have learned that we all share at least one common goal. And that is we all have the desire to protect our loved ones.

Selling Such an Important Product

Which brings me to my next reason I love being an insurance agent. I sell such an important product! I know nobody really likes to talk about insurance, but it’s so important! No one should be in a place where they don’t have health insurance when they really need it. You never know when a serious injury or illness can occur. Beyond that, everyone should have life insurance as another blanket of security. The loss of a loved one is heartbreaking. After that loss, time is needed to grieve, pray and reflect on the life our loved one lived. The last thing we need is to worry about not having the finances to cover the funeral cost or figuring out how to survive financially without them.

Retirement can be a nervous leap and requires proper planning. I love being able to prepare my clients for such an exciting and unique time in their lives. Same is true with financial planning for college. It is not cheap, and we can hope they will get scholarships to help, but that’s not always enough. I help my clients prepare their children for an important, life-changing event. Also, I work with the V.A. to serve our beloved veterans as well as they have served us. Other services I provide are long-term care and mortgage protection. These are all conversations that are not fun to have, but not having them can leave you unprepared. I am glad I can have these tough conversations to ease the minds and secure the futures, of my clients.

Educating My Clients

Unfortunately, not everyone understands all these topics! The government (and the business itself) have done a great job complicating them. The third reason I love my job is, I love that I am able to educate my clients on these important, but oh so confusing, topics. In a world where devastation seems to happen all the time, I encourage my clients to prepare for the worst, and the only way to do that is to have the knowledge of the insurance world and to act on it.
